Apple updates Final Cut camera app for iPhone 17 lineup with major new features

Apple has released Final Cut Camera 2.0, a big update to its camera app that now offers more powerful tools for creators. The update arrives alongside Final Cut Pro 10.9.2 for Mac and Final Cut Pro 2.0 for iPad, giving professionals and content makers a more complete workflow between devices.

With Final Cut Camera 2.0, users can now shoot in full 10-bit ProRes video, which means better colors and more detail for editing. It also brings support for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max users, letting them record in high-quality Log video and even save directly to external storage drives. This is especially useful for filmmakers who need larger storage options during shoots.

Apple has also added improved audio support. The app now works with external microphones, including USB-C devices, making it easier to capture clear and professional sound while recording. A new Audio Meters tool gives real-time feedback on sound levels, so users can monitor and adjust on the spot.

The update focuses on flexibility as well. Final Cut Camera can now be used as a wireless companion for Final Cut Pro on iPad, allowing multi-camera recording with several iPhones at once. This feature makes it simple for creators to set up different angles and sync them instantly in Final Cut Pro for editing.

Other improvements include better manual controls, such as adjusting ISO, shutter speed, and white balance, giving users more freedom to control the look of their videos. Apple has also worked on overall stability and performance so that the app runs smoothly even during longer sessions.

Final Cut Camera 2.0 is available for free on the App Store, while the new versions of Final Cut Pro for Mac and iPad are free for existing users. New customers can download Final Cut Pro for $299.99 on Mac and $4.99 per month or $49 per year on iPad after a one-month trial.

With this update, Apple is making it clear that the iPhone can be more than just a casual camera—it’s becoming a professional filmmaking tool that can work alongside Macs and iPads in serious production environments.
