Chinese tech boss meets Samsung after legal fight to talk about TV screens

The leader of China’s BOE Technology Group, Chen Yanshun, traveled to South Korea for a meeting with top people from Samsung Electronics in Seoul. This get-together happened right after BOE and Samsung Display had a legal disagreement about OLED screen technology, which ended with Samsung winning the settlement.

According to news reports from Yonhap, Mr. Chen met specifically with Yong Seok-woo, who manages Samsung’s Display Business, at Samsung’s main office in Suwon. The most important thing they talked about during this two-day visit was how BOE could provide a lot more LCD panels to Samsung.

Right now, Samsung gets every single one of its TV screens from Chinese companies. These recent talks clearly show that both Samsung and BOE are trying to find ways to cooperate more closely in the future, even though they just finished a court battle.

Earlier this year, a U.S. trade group called the International Trade Commission (ITC) made a first decision that could have stopped BOE from selling OLED panels in the United States for more than 14 years. But they settled the case, which means both companies can now move forward without a very long and stressful legal fight. This whole situation had created some bad feelings.

However, Mr. Chen’s visit is a good sign for the business relationship between BOE and Samsung. Even after their legal fight, they are looking for ways to work together and succeed. By having BOE send more LCD panels to Samsung, both companies stand to gain and can keep their strong positions in the worldwide screen market.
