Older iPhones could charge super slow with MagSafe charger

A test reveals that the MagSafe charger with older iPhones could result in super slow charging as compared to normal Qi chargers. When tested with the iPhone 11 showed a charging rate of 0.96W despite the expected 7.5W charging.

Although, Apple says that the MagSafe charger is Qi-compatible and it can also charge older iPhones.

The MagSafe Charger maintains compatibility with Qi charging, so it can be used to wirelessly charge your iPhone 8 or later, as well as AirPods models with a wireless charging case, as you would with any Qi-certified charger.

A video uploaded on a Youtube channel recorded the MagSafe charging rates as low as 0.96W. The same result was found when the iPhone SE was tested using a MagSafe charger, it was charged with just 1.83W power.

In the video, all the tests were done using Apple’s 20W power adapter and all the iPhones were aligned properly with the location of charging coils.

The reason why MagSafe charges the iPhone 12 faster as compared to the other iPhones could be that, it has magnetic charging rings for perfect alignment.

It is also possible that the slow charging speed is due to the compact size of the MagSafe as compared to the other charging pads, which made the alignment much more critical.
