Final Cut Pro now lets iPhone 17 Pro users edit prores raw videos
Apple has upgraded its video editing app Final Cut Pro with a major new feature for iPhone 17 Pro users. For the first time, creators can now shoot and edit ProRes RAW footage directly on their iPhone, making high-end filmmaking tools more accessible than ever.
With this update, videos captured in ProRes RAW on the iPhone 17 Pro can be imported straight into Final Cut Pro. This format is highly valued by professionals because it keeps more detail and flexibility than standard video, allowing editors to fine-tune exposure, color, and other settings while maintaining top image quality. It’s especially useful for those working on films, commercials, or creative projects that demand advanced editing control.
The feature takes advantage of the new A19 Pro chip inside the iPhone 17 Pro, which delivers powerful performance for handling large ProRes RAW files. This means creators can edit smoothly without needing a computer, something that was not possible with earlier iPhones. For those who prefer working on a bigger screen, projects can also be started on the iPhone and then continued on a Mac through Final Cut Pro.
Apple has been pushing the iPhone as a professional filmmaking tool for years, and the addition of ProRes RAW editing makes it even more capable. The company already introduced ProRes video recording with the iPhone 13 Pro, but this is the first time RAW editing is available on the device itself.
This move could change how many creators work, giving them the ability to shoot, edit, and deliver professional-quality videos directly from their phone. For vloggers, independent filmmakers, and content creators, it removes the need for heavy gear and makes high-end editing more mobile and convenient.
The update is rolling out now as part of the latest version of Final Cut Pro for iPhone, just in time for the iPhone 17 Pro launch. With this step, Apple is bringing desktop-level editing power into the palm of users’ hands.
