Google adds state IDs to Wallet and new AI Mode to Lens for smarter experiences
Google is rolling out two new features that make its digital tools even more powerful — support for state IDs in Google Wallet and a new “AI mode” in Google Lens powered by its Nano model.
Starting with Google Wallet, the company is now letting users in more states store their official IDs and driver’s licenses directly on their Android phones. This feature, which was first tested in Maryland, is expanding to Arizona, Colorado, and Georgia.
Once added, users can show their digital ID at airport security or other places that accept mobile identification. The process is fully secure, as it requires device verification, like fingerprint or face unlock, before sharing any details.
At the same time, Google Lens is getting smarter with a new AI-powered mode. Using the lightweight Gemini Nano model, Lens can now analyze and understand what you’re pointing your camera at more deeply.
For example, instead of just identifying an object or text, Lens can help answer complex questions or summarize what’s on screen — like explaining a sign in another language or providing context about a landmark. This new mode makes Lens more conversational and helpful without needing a full Gemini app experience.
Together, these updates show Google’s ongoing push to make everyday tools more practical and intelligent. Whether it’s keeping your ID safely on your phone or using your camera to understand the world around you, Android users are about to get a more seamless and AI-driven experience.
