Google is rolling out several big updates to its apps and services, focusing on smarter search tools, better ways to manage notes, and a new AI assistant to help you stay organized.

Changes to Pixel Phone Search

If you use a Pixel phone, you might notice that the search bar at the bottom of your home screen looks a bit different. This is because Google is replacing the classic Pixel Launcher search with a new version powered by the main Google app.

While this change allows you to use new AI search features more easily, it does change how things work. For example, some quick shortcuts to your contacts or settings are no longer there. Google says this is a planned update to help users get faster access to their AI search history and suggested apps. If you prefer the old style, you can still find it by swiping up on your screen to open the full list of apps.

New Features for NotebookLM

Google’s smart note-taking tool, NotebookLM, is getting a helpful update. Now, everyone can see their chat history. This means you can start a conversation with the AI on your computer and pick up right where you left off on your phone.

For power users, Google also introduced a new “AI Ultra” plan. This version is designed for people who need to do a lot of work, offering much higher limits for things like uploading documents, creating deep research reports, and making AI-generated videos or slides.

Meet “CC,” a New AI Personal Assistant

Finally, Google is testing a new experimental tool called “CC.” Think of it as a personal assistant that lives in your email. Every morning, CC sends you a “Day Ahead” email that summarizes your calendar, lists your important tasks, and even drafts emails or payment reminders for you.

It works by looking at your Gmail, Drive, and Calendar to understand what you need to do. Right now, it is only available to a small group of testers in the U.S. and Canada who sign up for a waitlist. It is a separate project from Google’s other AI tools, aimed at helping people manage their busy lives more efficiently.
