Google kicks off major Pixel Buds Pro 2 software update
After revealing it at the Made by Google event this year, the large update for Pixel Buds Pro 2 is now starting to reach users. A fresh choice called “Adaptive” Audio shows up in the Active Noise Control menu, right next to Noise Cancellation, Transparency, and Off. It tweaks the sound volume based on what’s happening around you.
The idea is to help you enjoy your music or podcasts without blocking out important sounds from your surroundings. With Adaptive Audio turned on, Loud Noise Protection kicks in automatically. It springs to life whenever there’s a sudden blast of sound, like a siren blaring or heavy machinery at work.
Gemini Live now handles background chatter much better, whether it’s a TV droning on or folks talking nearby. You can use this on Pixel 8 or any newer Google smartphone. To get head nods working for calls and messages, open the Pixel Buds app, head to Controls and gestures, then pick Use head gestures. This relies on the Pixel Buds Pro 2’s built-in accelerometers and special sensors.
- During an incoming call, a quick nod accepts it, while a side shake turns it down.
- For new texts, nodding starts a voice reply so you can speak your answer. Shaking your head cancels the whole thing.
These head movements will appear for users over the coming weeks. The Pixel Buds Pro 2’s major update begins its slow rollout today, bringing firmware version 4.467.
