Google launches new ‘Buy for Me’ and AI calling features to revolutionize shopping
Google is getting ready for the busy holiday buying season by releasing a group of new tools. These features are mostly focused on using smart, automated artificial intelligence (AI) to handle shopping tasks like checking out and making phone calls to stores.
The company is making its AI Mode feature much more advanced for shopping. Now, you can simply describe what you are looking for in a normal conversation, rather than typing short keywords.
For example, if you tell the search engine, “I need a light sweater for my upcoming trip to Atlanta, and I want it to be a classic style that I can wear with jeans and dresses,” the AI will understand your style needs and even consider the Atlanta weather without you having to ask.
The results you see will be clearly organized, showing pictures of products you can buy, along with important details like the cost, customer reviews, and whether it’s in stock. The AI can also quickly create simple charts to compare different products.
In other news, the Gemini app itself is now a helpful place to shop if you are in the United States. Instead of just suggesting text answers, the app will show real product lists, comparison charts, prices gathered from across the internet, and clear links that show you where to purchase the item.
Another new tool allows Google Search to call local shops on your behalf. If you are searching for items like electronics, toys, or health and beauty products “near me,” a new “Let Google Call” button will appear.
You can tell the system exactly what you want, including your price limit and favorite brands. The AI will then call the stores to “check if they have the product you need, how much it costs, and if they have any special sales.” After the calls are finished, Google will send you a summary of the store’s answers through text message or email.
Lastly, Google is rolling out an automated checkout feature called “Buy for me.” This tool works by connecting to Google’s existing price tracking system. First, you set up a notification for when an item’s price falls into a range you like.
When the price is reached, you will get a Google notification with a “Buy for me” button. After you confirm your payment method, shipping address, and delivery choices on a confirmation screen, a smart AI agent takes over.
The agent then visits the seller’s website, double-checks the current price, and securely finishes the purchase for you. This automated checkout feature is starting to become available now through Search from approved retailers in the U.S., including stores like Wayfair, Chewy, and Quince, with many more expected soon.
