Google’s first Pixel Buds Pro get new 5.11 software update
Google just shared news about a new software update for its first-generation Pixel Buds Pro earbuds. The announcement came out on Monday night, December 15, 2025.
This new software is called Firmware version 5.11. It is being sent out to the original Pixel Buds Pro, which first came out in 2022. Google says this update mainly brings “fixes for small problems, better performance, and improved safety.” We don’t have any more information on what else has changed right now.
The last time these earbuds got a big upgrade was in October 2023. That update, version 5.9, added helpful tools like knowing when you are talking (“Conversation Detection”), a feature for ear health (“Hearing Wellness”), and made sound delays much shorter for people playing games.
If you want to start the update process right away on your Android phone, open the Pixel Buds app, tap on “More settings,” and then choose “Firmware update.” You can also start the process by visiting the website mypixelbuds.google.com on your computer.
If you have chosen to use automatic updates, your Pixel Buds Pro will download the new software by itself when connected to a Pixel phone or any Android device running version 6.0 or newer. This download usually takes around 10 minutes, and you can keep using your earbuds while it happens. The update will actually install when you put the earbuds back into their charging case, as long as the case has enough battery power. If you check and see no update mentioned, it means you already have the newest software.
For manual updates, if you have automatic updates turned off, your phone will show a message saying that new software is ready. However, it won’t download or install it on its own. You will need to start the download yourself on your phone, and that process takes about 15 minutes.
