iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air users report scratching issues
Apple’s newest iPhone models, the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone Air, are facing early complaints from users about durability. Just days after launch, several people have noticed scratches forming on the screens and frames of their devices, even with careful use.
Many buyers have shared on social media and forums that their phones developed visible scratches after being carried in pockets or lightly used during the first week. The reports are growing across different regions, raising questions about the strength of the materials Apple used this year.
The iPhone 17 Pro comes with Apple’s new “Aerospace Aluminum” frame, while the iPhone Air features an ultra-thin design with lightweight materials. Apple promoted these changes as major improvements in both design and weight reduction. However, some users now feel that the trade-off might have reduced durability. Compared to last year’s iPhone 16 lineup, which used titanium on higher-end models, many believe the new frames are more prone to damage.
Scratches on the screen have also been reported, even though Apple continues to use Ceramic Shield glass, which it claims is stronger than most competitors’ glass. Customers say the scratches appear more easily than expected, with some describing them as “hairline marks” while others report deeper scuffs that are hard to ignore.
These complaints are especially concerning for the iPhone Air, a brand-new model introduced this year as Apple’s thinnest and lightest iPhone ever. While its design has been praised for being sleek and comfortable to hold, the reports of fragile build quality may affect buyer confidence.
It’s still unclear whether these issues are widespread or limited to certain batches of devices. Apple has not yet released any official statement regarding the complaints. In the past, the company has sometimes described such problems as “normal wear and tear,” but given the rising number of reports, many customers are waiting to see if Apple will address the matter more directly.
For now, users are being advised to use screen protectors and cases to avoid further scratches. As these reports continue to spread, it remains to be seen whether Apple will make any design changes in future iPhone models or provide solutions for affected customers.
