iOS users spendings grew 20% more on App Store in Q3 2020

According to a report, the spendings on a mobile app among users saw a 20 percent year-on-year increase in the third quarter of 2020.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, social distancing and lockdown policies have made users connect online for work, school, and socializing. A report states that 33 billion apps have been downloaded globally and $28 billion have been invested in the apps in the third quarter this year, which is up by 20% year-over-year.

The report also states that more than 180 billion hours each month have been spent on these apps in July, August, and September 2020, which is a 25% increase year-over-year.

The Google Play downloads have seen 10% year-on-year growth with 25 billion of total 33 billion downloads in the quarter. While the downloads for iOS are nearly 9 billion which is up by 20% year-on-year. The downloaded apps include 55% of non-gaming apps on Google play store, while iOS accounted for 70% of these apps.

The top two countries which contributed the maximum for the iOS were U.S. and China. India and South Korea also seeing some significant growth.  The top categories for the downloads were Games, Photo & Video, and Entertainment.

Facebook took the first position in terms of monthly active users, although the top four positions were taken by all Facebook apps including Facebook, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram. The other positions were taken by Amazon, Twitter, Netflix, Spotify, TikTok, and then Telegram. Meanwhile, the consumers spend the highest in Tinder, TikTok, YouTube, and, Disney.
