Samsung is moving quickly to develop its next big software update, One UI 8.5. While the official version isn’t ready for everyone yet, the company has started testing it on a long list of devices. This update, which is based on Android 16, focuses on making the phone look better and work more smoothly.

Testing Expands to Budget and Older Phones

Samsung has recently started internal testing for a variety of phones, ranging from expensive flagship models to more affordable ones. One of the newest additions to the testing list is the Galaxy A26 5G. This mid-range phone was seen running a new test version of the software on Samsung’s servers.

The Galaxy A26 isn’t the only one. Other budget-friendly phones like the Galaxy A16 and A17 are also being tested. Even older high-end devices, such as the Galaxy S22 series and the Galaxy Tab S9 tablets, have joined the list. This shows that Samsung wants to make sure the update works well on many different types of hardware before the official launch.

Small Visual Changes for a Cleaner Look

One of the most interesting parts of One UI 8.5 is how Samsung is tweaking the small details. For example, the “page dots” at the bottom of the home screen are getting a makeover. These are the tiny dots that show you which page of apps you are currently viewing.

In the new update, these dots are smaller and more subtle. This change helps the home screen look less cluttered and makes the wallpaper stand out more. It is a small adjustment, but it reflects Samsung’s goal of making the phone’s interface feel modern and clean.

What to Expect Next

Currently, only people with a Galaxy S25 can join the public “Beta” program to try the software early. For everyone else, the testing is happening behind the scenes at Samsung.

The official version of One UI 8.5 is expected to launch early next year alongside the new Galaxy S26 series. After that, Samsung will likely start sending the update to other eligible phones and tablets throughout the spring and summer of 2026.
