    Apple has just released macOS Sequoia 15.3, and it seems to have fixed a problem with the backup software SuperDuper. This update tackles a glitch that stopped SuperDuper from making bootable backups on Macs, as reported by the software’s creator, Dave Nanian.

    The problem started with macOS 15.2, where SuperDuper would hit a snag known as a “Resource Busy” error while trying to copy important system files needed for booting up from a backup. This error was due to Apple’s own backup tools not working properly.

    “With macOS 15.3 out now, the issue with the copying tool is fixed,” Nanian shared on his blog. “This means you can again use ‘Erase, then copy’ for your backups.”

    Despite this good news, Nanian warns that even with the bug fixed, booting from these backups isn’t guaranteed to work every time. This is because Apple has tightened security measures in both the macOS software and new Mac hardware.

    For instance, if you have an Apple Silicon Mac, the internal SSD must be working for you to boot from an external backup. If your Mac’s internal drive fails, you won’t be able to start up from a SuperDuper backup, no matter how well it’s made.

    This update is a step forward for those relying on SuperDuper for their backup needs, but users should still be aware of these hardware and software changes affecting how backups are used.

    The latest scam involves spreading AMOS, a notorious type of Mac malware, disguised as a DeepSeek app. AMOS, written in Swift, can work on both Intel and Apple Silicon chips. Hackers charge $1,000 a month to use this malware, which communicates with a cybercriminal’s server to steal your personal data like passwords, credit card details, and more.

    How It Works

    Here’s how you might get tricked:

    • You download a fake DeepSeek app from a website or an email.
    • The scammer tells you to open Terminal and drag a file into it.
    • What looks like a safe file actually runs harmful scripts, putting your Mac at risk.

    Protecting Yourself

    With macOS Sequoia, Apple made it harder for unsigned apps to run, but hackers have found ways around this by using Terminal. Remember, DeepSeek only has apps for iOS and Android, so any Mac version you see is not legitimate. Also, avoid using DeepSeek altogether because of privacy issues; in China, laws allow for extensive data access and censorship.

    Just a few days ago, Spotify tackled rumors suggesting that Apple Music was paying artists much more than they were. Right after that, Spotify shared some exciting news on their blog, revealing they’ve paid out an enormous amount to the music world in 2024.

    It might just be a coincidence, but it took about a month to gather all these figures. Spotify announced they’ve given $10 billion to the music industry last year, which is almost as much as the entire global music revenue back in 2014:

    Back then, in 2014, the music industry was at a low, with global music earnings at $13 billion. Spotify contributed about $1 billion with around 15 million subscribers paying for the service.

    Fast forward to 2024, Spotify alone has now paid out $10 billion to the music industry, summing up to nearly $60 billion since they started.

    For many, these big numbers might not mean much. Some might wonder why Spotify keeps talking about it so loudly.

    David Kaefer, Spotify’s VP of Music Business, wrote in the blog post about how Spotify makes money that supports the music industry. He explained it like a three-legged stool:

    • Making Spotify more attractive to users, so they stick around.
    • Turning free listeners into paying subscribers.
    • Expanding into new markets with prices that appeal to local users.

    There’s more good news for Spotify too. They’re helping smaller artists make a living:

    For example, in 2014, roughly 10,000 artists were making at least $10,000 a year from Spotify. Now, more than 10,000 artists are making over $100,000 a year just from Spotify. That’s pretty awesome.

    The main point here is that it’s great to see more openness about how much artists are earning. Yet, it’s clear that Spotify, along with Apple Music and other streaming platforms, are doing a good job by making it easier and more enjoyable to pay for music rather than steal it.

Good news is, it looks like the wait is almost over with a new version expected to hit the shelves by the end of this year.

    According to recent reports from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, Apple is gearing up to introduce the updated HomePod mini sometime at the end of 2025. This new model will come with Apple’s own special Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip, which supports the newer Wi-Fi 6E standard. This is a step up from the Wi-Fi 4 that the current model uses, promising better and faster connections for enjoying music or using Siri.

    Though specifics are still under wraps, there’s talk that the new HomePod mini might include a more advanced “S” processor, better sound, fresh color choices, and an updated Ultra Wideband chip for quicker handoffs between devices. The current version uses the S5 chip from the 2019 Apple Watch Series 5.

    Alongside this, Apple is also rumored to be working on a new smart home hub. This device could have a display from 6 to 7 inches, set up either on a wall or on a stand with its own speaker, somewhat like the HomePod mini.
