What’s different in Samsung’s new One UI 8.5 update compared to One UI 8.0
Even though the One UI 8.0 update is still fairly new, attention has already shifted to the next big software release from Samsung: One UI 8.5. This major update is expected to start rolling out to Galaxy phones sometime early next year. While the software is still being tested, we have a good idea of some important improvements to expect in Samsung’s most-used apps and system features.
The My Files app has received a big makeover that changes how it looks. The new design is much simpler and cleaner, making it easier to see more files and details on the screen at once. They also moved the search button to the bottom of the screen, where it’s more convenient to reach with one hand.
The Gallery app also got some helpful changes to make moving around the app smoother. For instance, the section that used to be called “Stories” is now named “Collections.” This feature works mostly the same way but now has a few more settings and choices. The special Galaxy AI editing tools have also been updated.
You can now clearly see all the different edit options right away, the AI itself works in smarter ways, and you can even look back at a history of all the changes the AI made to your pictures.
Beyond the main apps, the new One UI 8.5 is expected to add a few handy system improvements. To make things more secure, you might have to complete an Identity Check before you can change some sensitive settings on your phone.
For people who use two SIM cards in their device, the phone will now show a single, clean icon at the top of the screen for your network connection instead of separate ones.
