Google Messages begins voice recorder redesign rollout

Google has been working on a voice recorder redesign for its Messages app for a long time. It looks like things are finally official, and the company has started rolling out some new tweaks and capabilities to a handful of users.

To begin with, the microphone in the text field now appears in a waveform style. Note that this icon tweak is different from the one we have in the Gboard application for voice transcription. Another useful feature is, you don’t have to hold the mic to record your voice.

Yes, you can perform hand-free recording operations in Google Messages, thanks you the latest voice recorder redesign. As of now, the interface opens a constant panel with a start and stop button alongside the Cancel / Delete and Attach tab.

Users will further see a count and waveform notes progress in the above field. In addition, you will find inline voice messages preview. The feature is not widely available among users at the moment. But the tech giant will soon initiate a broader release.
