Google has officially confirmed that its initial music streaming service and app, Play Music is no longer avaialble for use and discontinued by the company.
Back in August, Google informed Play Music users that the company has decided to put an end to this app and decided to migrate users to the new YouTube Music.
However, it’s not the first product that Google has terminated to introduce a new one but it makes sense that Google chose YouTube Music over Play Music.
Also, YouTube has the biggest online video content library, YouTube music is also moving in the same direction and to beat its rivals and to dominate the music streaming field with its growing number of users.
Google has also presented instructions to transfer your data from Play Music to YouTube Music including music libraries.
You can do this via music.youtube.com/transfer. You can also download your data via Google Takeout or delete your data through your Play Music account settings.

With Google Takeout, you can download:
- Previously purchased music from Google Play uploaded tracks.
- Your music wishlist and reviews.
- A list of the tracks, playlists, and radio stations in your library.
In your Google Play Music account settings, you can delete:
- Play Music library.
- Play Music recommendations history.
What YouTube Music offers:
- Find millions of official songs, playlists, videos, and more.
- Discover new music with personalized recommendations.
- Upload up to 100,000 tracks to YouTube Music at music.youtube.com.
Now Google Play Music is not available on Play Store, it indicates for the shutdown. It’s deprecation started in August. The company will keep Play Music playlists, uploads, purchases, likes, and other data until December to give users a chance to transfer to YouTube Music using the transfer tool.
Also, by the end of this year, users will lose access to the Google Play Music app including their saved playlists and Play Music data that is not transferred to YouTube Music.
