Japanese car company Suzuki will soon start electric vehicle production in India and export them to Japan from India as early as 2025. Suzuki is also reportedly considering supplying Indian-made electric vehicles to Toyota, which would be sold in European markets under the Toyota brand.
Currently, the Indian market has large room for development and has lower manufacturing costs than Japan. However, Suzuki declined to comment on this. In terms of details, the Suzuki electric vehicles that will be sold back to Japan in 2025 at the earliest will be small electric SUVs with a price of about 3-4 million yen.
After the production of electric vehicles in India, Suzuki also plans to produce light electric vehicles in Shizuoka Prefecture in Japan in 2026, applying India’s experience to Japan.
