Google restores some smart speaker features after success in Sonos’ lawsuit

Google has suddenly started restoring some prominent features to its smart speaker due to Sonos’ patent infringement lawsuit. After achieving success in federal court on Friday for the respective case, the tech giant is planning to bring back the ultimate functionality to the speaker groups.

For your information, Google has recently made some changes to smart speakers including Nest speakers, displays, and Chromecast where a few devices can only work with one speaker group at a time in the Google Home app.

Eventually, Google made some restrictions and removed useful features from smart speaker in response to Sonos’ lawsuit. However, the tech maker is once again rolling back this change to its devices. Here’s what the company quoted on its official Nest community:

“In light of this legal decision, we’re happy to share that we will be rolling back this change. Devices will be able to belong to multiple speaker groups and you will no longer run into an error when trying to add a device to additional groups.”
