Apple to continue using Qualcomm 5G modem for iPhones till 2027

In 2023, it was rumored that Apple is working on a self-developed 5G Modem and will use it for iPhones, starting in 2025. However, this information seems to be false, as the firm has extended its patent license agreement, which will lead Apple to continue using Qualcomm 5G modem for iPhones till 2027.

According to the information, the CEO of Qualcomm during Qualcomm’s financial results report announced that Apple will continue to use Qualcomm 5G modem in its iPhone models for at least until 2027. Therefore, it can be said that the last iPhone to use Qualcomm chips will be the iPhone 19 instead of iPhone 17.

However, Apple’s delayed plans for the modem will keep Qualcomm happy for another few years, even though it realizes the impact of losing the iPhone maker once the modem does come to completion. Apple has made huge transitions with silicone over the years and has done it successfully.

Apple purchased Intel’s modem business in 2019 and has since been working on a custom-made 5G modem. Therefore, the firm is facing hurdles causing the deadline to be pushed further.
