TSMC considering 6nm chips production in 2nd Japan plant

TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) is planning to kick-start the production of 6nm chips in the second Japan plant. Consequently, this plan is likely to come into action by 2027. Meanwhile, a total investment of 2 trillion yen ($13.3 billion) is expected in this activity, with Japan’s Ministry of Economy.

Ahead, the information reveals that the TSMC 6nm chips production will be the most advanced semiconductor product in Japan. To gain fruitful results, the local authorities are putting efforts into production with the economic stimulus package, which will reach accuracy by the end of the month.

TSMC started building its first semiconductor plant in Kumamoto in April last year. Construction of the second plant is expected to begin next summer, with mass production set to start in 2027. The company is looking forward to producing 6nm and 12nm chipsets with Sony as a supplier.
