Google Android October 2020 security patch details released, fixes new viruses and issues

Last month, Google launched Android 11 and started the initial rollout for Pixel devices. Alongside the latest Android version, Google also released September security improvements. On the other hand, Android smartphone manufacturers are also preparing to test and release their own versions of Android 11.

Meanwhile, Google has published the October 2020 security patch bulletin, which covers security levels of 2020-10-05 or later addresses all issues associated with the 2020-10-01 security patch level and all previous patch levels.

This latest patch fixes 20 high levels and 1 moderate level of Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) found in the recent builds. These CVEs affect different sections of Android devices.

Vulnerabilities are grouped under the component that they affect. there is a description of the issue and a table with the CVE, associated references, type of vulnerability, severity, and update Android open-source Projects (AOSP) versions (where applicable).

The most severe of these issues is a high-security vulnerability in the System component that could enable a remote attacker using a specially crafted transmission to gain access to additional permissions. The severity assessment is based on the effect that exploiting the vulnerability would possibly have on an affected device, assuming the platform and service mitigations are turned off for development purposes or if successfully bypassed.
