How to disable Handwashing alerts on your Apple Watch running watchOS 7

Apple introduced several new features with watchOS 7 that includes a new handwashing feature. This feature has become a headache for some users.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the health organizations discovered that washing hands at least up to 20 seconds can avoid the virus from spreading. Keeping this in mind, Apple came up with a new feature for Apple Watch that encourages users to wash their hands up to 20-seconds.

By using some sensors the Apple Watch can detect when you wash your hands and starts a 20-seconds timer for a proper hand wash. The Watch also keeps reminding you in a certain period of time. You will receive a notification as a reminder in case you haven’t washed your hands within a few minutes of returning home.

But now it seems that despite helping users it has started to irritate them. Some of the users are being disturbed by this feature as their Apple Watch keeps on reminding them to wash off their hands regularly even if they already did.

This has become disturbing for some users, so we are providing you with a guide on how you can get rid of the irritation caused by this feature. There are two different ways on how you can turn off this feature and here they are:

How to turn off the handwashing feature of watchOS 7 using iPhone:

  • Open the Watch app on your iPhone.
  • Under My Watch, scroll down until you see the Handwashing feature
  • Tap the toggle next to Handwashing Timer.
  • To turn off the Reminders.
  • Tap on the ‘Handwashing Reminders’ toggle below the Handwashing timer.

How to turn off the handwashing feature of watchOS 7 using Apple Watch:

  • Press the Digital Crown
  • Select the Settings app.
  • Scroll down and tap Handwashing.
  • Tap the toggle next to Handwashing Timer.
