Google preps to add Ultra HDR image capture support to CameraX

Google works delightedly to offer its users a better-than-best performance and for this, the search engine keeps on bringing advancements to its already prominent functionalities. As a recent leak suggests that Google may reportedly add an Ultra HDR image capture support to the CameraX API.

According to the information of Mishal Rahman, Google is preparing to add Ultra HDR image capture support to the CameraX API. This new addition will allow apps that utilize the CameraX API to output images in the new JPEG_R format used for Ultra HDR, on devices running Android 14.

To be mentioned, JPEG_R is a new type of JPEG file that can contain a gainmap in its metadata so that the HDR version of an image can be rendered on HDR displays and the SDR version on SDR displays. Notably, the source also shares a short clip that shows how the Ultra HDR will work.

Moving on, the CameraX is a Jetpack library, built to help make camera app development easier. CameraX also has an optional Extensions API that allows you to access the same features and capabilities as a device’s native camera app with as few as two lines of code.
