WhatsApp is a secure application but still many users remain in dilemma about whether to set a profile picture and what kind of image will be a good pick, especially in group chats. Well, it’s time to get relief from this headache as WhatsApp is bringing a new group chat profile icons feature.
Spotted in the latest Android 2.23.15.9 beta version, WhatsApp is testing new group chat icons, that will help users without profile pictures. As of now, your display picture (DP) will not show the default user profile image. Rather, it will display a refreshed thumbnail with the initial letter of the respective group member’s name.
This enhancement will further assist other participants in the conversation by enabling them to quickly identify the contact defined by the thumbnail. To check this feature, you need to visit a group chat and view a message sent by a group member, whose DP is not visible.

Notably, the feature is available to some beta testers at the moment via the Google Play Store. Although, we expect to see a wider rollout in the coming days.
