Huawei has been using the Kirin processor for a long time. Due to the insufficient inventory, the Chinese tech giant is now expanding over Qualcomm processors, while the upcoming Snapdragon 898 (tentatively) processor could be exclusive for Huawei.
A well-known Weibo Tipster – DigitalKing (via HuaweiCentral) said the next Snapdragon processor will build with Samsung’s 4nm process technology and has an 8 Core architecture design. It’s revealed that Huawei will be the exclusive users of the 4G Snapdragon 898 chipset.
Huawei Mate 50:
Apart from any other device, the Huawei Mate 50 is slated to be the first smartphone to come with Snapdragon 898 chipset. The CPU specifications are: 1 x 3.0GHz Cortex X2 super large core + 3 x 2.5GHz Cortex A78 large core + 4 x 1.79GHz Cortex A55 small core.
Following the U.S. restrictions, it’s very hard for Huawei to jump into the open market and purchase new resources to build devices. The Chinese tech maker cannot do such a process, instead, it will have to rely on the third-party manufacturers to gather all of the required components.
The previous report reveals that Huawei has already started testing new Huawei Mate devices with Snapdragon 898 4G chipset internally, which is expected to launch in the first quarter of next year.
In terms of specs, the 4G version of SD 898 is different from the 5G version, yet there’s no difference in terms of performance. On the other hand, if some people are wondering, why Huawei is not using 5G chipset, because it cannot access the required 5G RF (radio frequency) components to enable 5G baseband on devices.
In the current scenarios, the core 5G RF chip comes from the U.S. market, which is heavily regulated following the U.S. restrictions and leads to Huawei’s lack of such material to build new smartphones with 5G access.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 performance:
As previously, an image of an upcoming Vivo phone surfaced online on Geekbench. The phone scored 720 points for single-core and 1919 points for multi-core performance. The phone was also tested on the Antutu platform and reached over a million in terms of performance, to catch up with Apple chipsets.
It’s not confirmed, whether it’s a 4G or the 5G variant but since Vivo can access the 5G chipset, it won’t revert it to the 4G channel.
For now, there’s no official confirmation, whether the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 will be exclusive for Huawei or not.
