These are the best Pokemon games, ranked from best to worst

For the last 25 years, developer Game Freak has found a way to recreate the Pokemon franchise for each new generation of gamers. Both the newly discovered Pokemon Trainer and the Pokemon Masters were captured by these cute (and sometimes scary) little monsters.

Maybe it’s a campaign to capture everything that brings players back. Or how beautiful these little pocket monsters can be. Whatever the reason, players continue to search or return for the Pokemon franchise.

Every game has a very consistent feel. Each follows the one before it but creates a little more in the Pokemon world. With each new iteration of Pokemon, new features and Pokemon are brought to the table. Pokemon giants may know about the last game of every game, but there is a new and expanded way to bring every player into the world of Pokemon.

This is the next new Pokemon installment, which looks like Pokemon Legends: Ares, and can completely break the mold with a new, open-world game similar to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The long-awaited remake of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl is also set to release later this year. This franchise knows exactly how to hold players longer.

Every entry on this list is great, but if you’re looking for a good entry into the universe, these are what we suggest.

  • Pokémon Gold/Silver/Crystal (generation 2)
  • Pokémon Red/Blue/Yellow (gen 1)
  • Pokémon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald (gen 3)
  • Pokémon Sword and Shield (gen 8)
  • Pokémon Ultra Sun/Moon (gen 7)
  • Pokémon X/Y (gen 6)
  • Pokémon Diamond/Pearl/Platinum (gen 4)
  • Pokémon White/Black and White/Black 2 (gen 5)
