Ford North America will reportedly stop production due to chip shortage

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has released its quarterly report on the semiconductor market. According to SIA, in the first quarter of 2021, the volume of this market in monetary terms amounted to $ 123.1 billion. This is 3.6% more than in the fourth quarter of 2020 and 17.8% more than in the first quarter of 2020.

“Global semiconductor sales remained strong during the first quarter of 2021, exceeding the sales of the previous quarter and significantly outstripping total sales in the first quarter of last year,” said John Neuffer, president and CEO of SIA. “Annual and monthly sales increased in March in all major regional markets, and demand increased across a range of product categories.”

More precisely, in China, the annualized growth was 25.6%, in Japan – 13.0%, in the Americas – 9.2%, in Europe – 8.7%. in the Asia-Pacific and all other regions in total – 19.6%.

It remains to add that SIA represents 98% of the US semiconductor industry in terms of revenue and almost two-thirds of manufacturers operating in this industry in other countries of the world.
