At I/O 2024, Google announced that the firm is working on a big tweak that makes the sign-in process for Passkeys even easier with Android 15 and Wear OS 5. Yes, Google is working hard to bring Passkeys support to smartwatches running Wear OS 5 via Android Credential Manager.
The new sign-in process eliminates the need for the traditional long method which starts with confirming the account and last by authenticating via fingerprint, face, or PIN. It means, when you set up your Android 15 device you’ll find a simplified and user-friendly sign-in process for Passkeys.
With the upcoming Operating System version, Google will bring a new single-tap sign-in experience for Passkeys, which places all the details in a single long sheet. This makes the process more convenient, as users will now not need to hover on different pages to set up the Passkeys.
Furthermore, Autofill will suggest Credential Manager results while clicking on a relevant input field during sign-in on Gboard. While, this Credential Manager is also coming to Wear OS-powered smartwatches with Wear OS 5 to let users log in to apps with passwords, passkeys, or Sign in with Google.
