Sony will begin rolling out support for 1080p streaming with PlayStation Now beginning this week

PlayStation 5

Sony will now start rolling out support for 1080p streaming with the PlayStation, well ahead of the streaming quality from the previous 720p cap of the cloud gaming service.

In its tweet, Sony says support for “1080p-enabled games” will roll out, but has not yet shared a list of games that could hit higher resolution. We asked the company if it could share more information.

Allowing some PlayStation Now games to stream to 1080p brings the service with some of Sony’s cloud gaming rivals. Amazon’s Luna is currently at 1080P, while Google’s Stadia can reach 4K resolution. Microsoft is currently testing 1080p support for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

I played the full part of our PlayStation 3 version last year on my PS4 last year with PlayStation Now streaming, and the service worked without a hitch. The 1080p resolution boost (for those supporting games) should be a nice upgrade.
