TSMC will overall expand the production capacity of 7nm and 28nm process

When the global chip is out of stock, TSMC announced that it will comprehensively enhance the production capacity by 7nm and 28nm. According to the report, in addition to plans to expand 5nm production capacity, TSMC is also planning to fully expand 7nm and 28nm process production capacity. This move will help TSMC to boost its capital expense expectations again this year.

At present, all production lines of Taipower have been fully loaded. As the reduction and amortization of 7nm and 28nm process equipment and facilities are coming to an end, TSMC will continue to increase production capacity to face strong market demand.

Besides, TSMC’s N7 process family, including 6nm, has attracted orders from manufacturers such as AMD. The source pointed out that TSMC is planning to set up 7nm and 6nm process production lines in the first phase of its new factory in Kaohsiung. The design capacity of this stage will reach about 40,000 wafers per month.

Moreover, TSMC also intends to establish a 28nm production line in the second phase of the Kaohsiung new plant. However, the construction plan of the plant is still waiting for the results of the environmental influence appraisal. TSMC is attempting to cooperate with Sony to build a 28nm fab in Japan.

Earlier, TSMC also revealed the development plan of Nanjing’s 12-inch wafer fab, which will increase the production capacity by 40,000 pieces of 28 nanometers per month, and the new production capacity will be launched in 2023.
