Samsung should release One UI 2.1 update for the Galaxy S9 and Note 9

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 series users are disappointed, as Samsung doesn’t confirm the One UI 2.1 update status for both smartphone series.

Samsung has already rolled out the One UI 2.1 for the Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy S10 series. In the beginning, the company (via community manager) gave hint to the Galaxy Note 9 and S9 users – they were planning a software update for their devices.

Samsung One UI 2.1: The biggest new features, changes, how to

Recently, Samsung’s manager in the South Korean community, shared that the “there is no support plan for the one UI 2.1 update schedule for the S9 and Note 9 models at this time”. The manager added, “there may be internal changes” in reference to the One UI 2.1 update schedule.

Why do we think these devices should get the One UI 2.1 update?

Samsung launched the Galaxy Note 9 on August 9, 2018. At the time of launch, the price started at $1,000 for the 128GB model, while the 512GB version valued $1,250. Samsung introduced the Galaxy S9 and S9+ on March 16, 2018. For the Galaxy S9, the buyers paid $720 and $840 for the larger S9+.

Samsung’s Galaxy S9 series is more than two years old, while the Galaxy Note 9 is going to be two years old in August 2020. Both smartphones will continue to receive regular security updates for another year.

As hinted to in the manager’s response, Samsung may or not release the One UI 2.1 update for the Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy S9 devices. We think these two smartphones should get the One UI 2.1 update (because they won’t be getting the next version of Samsung’s One UI skin – One UI 3.0).
