YouTube starts testing time-linked comments on watching videos

YouTube introduces timed emoji reactions for Android and iOS users

Looks like the latest use of YouTube is trying time-consuming comments, it appears when you watch the video.  If this is known, it’s very similar to how comments already appear on some other services, such as SoundCloud, or even when chats appear on YouTube Livestream replays.

These time-bound comments are only available to a small group of YouTube users – we are not blessed with a choice of any of our accounts.

If you choose, pressing the comment sort button will bring up a new “Time Beta” option that shows the time-specific quips specified in the YouTube video. This may help prevent spoilers in some content or have the exact opposite effect with more comment spam than the current streaming video platform.

Earlier, the developers testing a new feature that allows you to view citations while watching the video. This experiment is available to a small group of a few videos and we will look at making it more comprehensive based on feedback. To see if you are part of the experiment, go to the comments section on iOS or Android and press the Sort button to select “Time Beta”.

As with anything and every YouTube experiment, there is no rhyme or logic about what features to eradicate and adopt more widely. The time-bound comments are definitely interesting for the wholesale youtube, but our lucky ones to see the beta feature tell us how it works in practice.
