Apple announced iPadOS 17 with new UI and lock screen features

Alongside iOS 17, Apple has announced iPadOS 17 with a bunch of interesting features and functionalities. On the flip side, the company has enhanced the user interface and lock screen to more extent. So let’s begin the tour of this prominent software upgrade.

Eventually, the list of changes begins with a revamped Stage Manager feature. This addition enables users to operate several app windows at the same time. It further lets the iPad work with an external monitor. The element was already introduced in the iPadOS 16, but with the latest version, the company is making it more advanced.

Next comes the lock screen customizations, which have also taken place in leaks so far. The company has added a handful of customizations for iPad devices that were confined only to iPhone devices. As of now, the corresponding device owners can create a variety of lock screens theme, with different wallpapers, widgets, and font styles.

Another significant change that Apple announced is the Health app which is now a part of the iPadOS 17. The app is redesigned to take advantage of the iPad’s larger display. Meanwhile, it brings all the health data, stored on the iPhone via iCloud.

In addition, some new iOS 17 features are also included in the iPadOS 17 update. For instance, the Journal app, enhancements for Find My, Live Activities, powerful widgets, Notes PDF experience, Messages with interactive communication tools, productive Safari app, and more.

Additional Tweaks in iPadOS 17

  • Freeform – offers new drawing tools to collaborate around the board.
  • Spotlight – helps in finding details and provides new shortcuts.
  • Reminders – a new intelligent way to make details easier by automatically grouping related items into sections, and providing a new column view to display sections horizontally across the screen.
  • Visual Look Up, Keyboard and Autocorrect features, Siri changes, offline Maps, better privacy, accessibility functions, and more.

iPadOS 17 first beta is now available for developers. And here is the list of iPad devices that are compatible with the major software upgrade.

  • iPad mini (5th generation and later)
  • iPad (6th generation and later)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
  • iPad Pro (all models except 1st-gen 12.9)
