Google Chrome replaces the download bar with a new tray-like interface

Google Chrome is replacing the old download bar with a unique and more efficient tray-like interface. As of now, your downloaded files will appear in a new framework rather than the outdated bar that shows up at the bottom of the browsing application.

Not one, but three major reasons have resulted in the replacement of the download bar with a new tray UI for Google Chrome. These issues are as follows:

  • Occupy precious pixels and squeezes the web content area
  • Didn’t go away automatically, and only offered a few actions
  • Was no longer modern, interactive, and consistent with the look

Meanwhile, the new tray appears to the right of the address bar. Here, you will get an animated ring to note progress and a small pop-up window when something completes. You can even disable it via Settings > Downloads > Show download when they’re done.

The new download tray is rolling out gradually for Mac, Windows, Linux, and ChromeOS. Make sure your browser is fully updated, and it should be fully available over the coming weeks.
