Global 5G smartphone shipments increased in 2020 while the overall market fell by 8.8%: Report

With COVID-19 pandemic, many markets around the world have faced several challenges. Although some also have gained a lot from it while many have encountered loss that will take time for the recovery. Looking at the smartphone market, this sector also remained down amid the pandemic.

According to the latest report by DigiTimes, the global smartphone shipments faced an overall decline as the virus outbreak crippled the market, while the 5G smartphone shipment separately managed to get an adequate amount of sale during the same period.

The global smartphone shipment of 2020 suffered an 8.8% decline to 1.24 billion units. Talking about the quarter wise growth, the smartphone shipment worldwide drove over 20% on year in the first quarter of 2020 and then fell by double-digit in the third quarter.

As per the reports, the top six smartphone brands were Samsung, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo. Among these phone makers, Apple and Xiaomi managed to get their shipments increased by over 10% at the start of the year, while the shipments for Huawei and Samsung both saw a decline during the period.
