Apple released iOS 16, and iPadOS 16 systems, and has released the first developer preview Beta. iOS 16 adds a new Privacy Tool Security Checkup feature to help users whose personal safety may be threatened by family or partner violence, allowing them to quickly revoke all permissions that are open to others.

These include emergency resets, which allow users to simply log out of their iCloud accounts on all other devices, reset privacy permissions, and restrict others from sending messages to the devices they use. This feature also helps users understand and manage which people and apps they have opened permissions to.
Moreover, new safety checks help victims cut off potentially dangerous contact with their abuser, allowing them to remotely disable messaging on assistive devices, turn off location tracking, and more.
Users can quickly reset all privacy permissions, sign out of iCloud on all devices, and restrict all incoming and outgoing messages to a single device by performing an emergency reset. Additionally, it disables location tracking permissions they may have granted to their family or intimate partners.
Apple has partnered with agencies such as the National Network to End Domestic Violence, the National Center for Victims of Crime, and WESNET to create the Safety Check, which is also designed to help users better understand and manage who they have access to in advertising apps.
Furthermore, Apple continues to expand security and privacy features. In 2020, Apple announced the App Privacy Label, which details what information an app collects from users, whether the app tracks users, and what data is associated with users.
At WWDC22, Apple also announced new features to simplify the management of children’s accounts. These new features guide parents in setting content limits for minors, screen time limits, and location sharing with family members.
