Samsung seized the global smartphone market for Q1, 2021, Huawei slipped to 6th: Counterpoint

Global smartphone shipment in the first quarter of 2021 grows 20% year-on-year but declined 10% QoQ and reached 354.94 million units in Q1 2021, says Counterpoint research. Samsung regained the top spot replacing Apple which encountered a decline in shipments.

While, the Chinese tech giant, Huawei has slipped out from the top 5 and landed on the sixth position in the global market. The Company could only contribute 4% of total shipment in the first quarter of the year.

Samsung topped the list with a huge 22% market share, thanks to the Galaxy S21 series launched at the start of Q1. Apple saw a seasonal quarterly decline and could only grab a 17% market share.

The rest of the 3 positions out of the top 5 were seized by the Chinese phone makers including Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo. Xiaomi grabbed 14% market, Oppo with 11%, and Vivo get 10%. All the top 5 brands contributed to the market capturing a 54% share in the global smartphone shipment.

Regional-wise, Samsung also got the first position in the North America, LATAM, and MEA regions, while Apple took a 55% share in North America. Whereas, Vivo took the first spot in Asia with an 18% share.
