Samsung is surprisingly rolling out a GPS fix update to millions of outdated Galaxy phones, in recent development. Starting this month, the years-old Galaxy J7 received the GPS stability fix with the latest software update. However, that was only the beginning.

The company is now expanding the same fix with the new update for 500 million+ old Galaxy phones. These devices include Galaxy S5 Neo, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy A7, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus, Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy Note 9, and Galaxy Note 9.

None of these devices are eligible for a single software update and no one would have expected this surprise. But Samsung keeps on rocking by providing not only system stability but also the GPS stability fix update for these models to further provide users with proper positioning, navigation, and timing services.

It is worth mentioning that these updates have not arrived with the latest security patch. The company’s update tracker for these phones only mentions a GPS stability fix, besides Galaxy S6 whose changelog also mentions some additional fixes and new/improved features. But they are getting updates, that’s a big deal.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Neo was released in 2015 and has recently celebrated its seventh anniversary. The Galaxy Alpha, on the other hand, is even older. Launched in 2014, it was the first Samsung phone to adopt a more premium exterior design with a solid aluminum frame.

Samsung customers of these above-listed devices can download and install their latest update by navigating to Settings and Software update sections on their phones.

Samsung’s 2022 software update policy:

Samsung has earned a well-deserved reputation for reliable, regular updates and software support in recent years. It used to provide three major Android and four years of security patch updates to its flagship phones.

Meanwhile, as per the company’s new software update policy that was released in early 2022, it will provide four major Android in addition to five years of security patches to flagship and select Galaxy A series mid-range phones.
