Huawei rolling out May 2021 security update for Mate X folding phone [EMUI 11]

Huawei’s May 2021 security update is now reaching more devices Mate X foldable phone is getting the new software update with May 2021 patch. Other than the security improvements, the update does not bring any other newly added feature to the device.

Launched back in 2019, the Huawei Mate X comes pre-installed with EMUI 9.1 pre-installed. Later on, it received EMUI 10, EMUI 10.1, and EMUI 11 upgrades. The upcoming major upgrade for the Mate X users will bring in the brand new HarmonyOS 2.0 with a bunch of new features.

The latest firmware carries the EMUI 11 version 11.0.0143 upgraded from EMUI 11.0.0.140. It’s a staged rollout and may take time to reach every device and if it reached your smartphone then maintain enough battery and storage to download, steps are mentioned below.

What’s New:

According to Huawei, the May 2021 security update fixes different levels of exploits and issues including 3 critical, 10 high, and 4 medium levels of CVE for improved system security. In addition, it also resolves 13 hidden privacy issues found in previous firmware updates.

Huawei Mate X HarmonyOS 2.0 Update Status

Huawei Mate X users are currently testing the HarmonyOS 2.0 beta and once the beta activity is over, the stable update will be available for all the users. However, the beta program is currently limited to China and the company will soon expand it internationally.

How to check for updates?

Via Settings

  • You can update your device via Settings
  • Then navigate to System & updates >> Software updates >> Check for updates
  • Lastly (If the update appears) then click on Download and install
  • After installation restarts the device to optimize the applications

Via Support app: 

  • This is an alternate method to download the update on Huawei devices through Support app
  • For that go to Service tab > Update > Download and install > and then finally Install
