It was first discovered by people who are 9to5Google, a tool that is now among the existing styles, and all in an abundance of icons. It is secretly in the latter case, which requires a little more effort, to apply.
The Markup was quite good, so you can do more than just put text, photos. You can even doodle or highlight text in multiple colors — this is very useful if you work on photos, documents, or notes very often.

It’s a small trick, but it certainly improves on the already robust editing series that Google Photos has to offer. Only you can make changes to both characteristics like contrast, sharpness, and exposure, as well as additional bokeh images of people monochromatic in the background or changing the light on the way.

It’s a good minor change that might increase usage of this capability as it’s no longer hidden even as people have several ways to edit screenshots, especially with Android 11+. Markup’s elevation in the Google Photos editor is rolling out now.
The height of the tools board is largely related to placement, however, if you don’t see this currently, try updating the app via the Google Play Store on your device.
